The famous ancient medical center, is just outside of Kos Town on the lush pine-covered slopes of a low hill. It was built to honour the god of health and medicine, Asklepios and the teachings of the Greek physician and “Father of Modern Medicine”, Hippocrates.
The excavated site bears the ruins of an establishment that served as a religious sanctuary, healing center and medical school for over nine centuries.
